If you had the misfortune of suffering a major loss from fire or natural disaster, would you be able to remember everything you own in order to make a claim for loss of personal property? This is one of the most difficult parts of the recovery process.  If you know someone who lost a home in the wildfires last year, you and they know the issue first hand.

I cannot stress enough the importance of making a home inventory of your personal property, and thanks to a free tool offered by the Insurance Information Institute (III), it is now easier to get started. The Institute is offering free downloads of home inventory software. An electronic home inventory offers many advantages over a paper version. Digital photos or even narrated videos can be stored with inventory lists. Receipts for major purchases can be scanned and saved. The software permits multiple copies to be burned onto CDs and stored away from the property. Try it yourself and recommend it to your family and friends.  Go to

Let's hope you never need this but it's always better to be prepared. And if you need anything else related to any of your real estate concerns, you can always reach me at 512-560-0777.

Best wishes,
